All my hospitals are in London, and to be honest I’ve never actually taken advantage of being in the city. Usually just going to and from hospitals without doing anything else. But this time we had booked tickets to an exhibition. I had seen it advertised on Tik Tok and to be honest, would probably have gone, hospital appointment or not.

It was an exhibition of some of Marilyn Monroe’s personal affects. Anyone who knows me knows I love Marilyn. I have read so many books, seen all the films, have a quote tattooed on me and a picture in my living room. So this felt very emotional and intimate.

It was also the first time I have been to an exhibition since losing my sight nearly 12 years ago. So going in I wasn’t sure what to expect. As it would turn out there are audio guides, these were really helpful, it allowed me to engage in the details of the exhibition fully.

(Not so helpful was that we weren’t told or offered the audio guide upon entering. It took us getting a quarter of the way round, with my partner reading everything, before we found out!) is it just me who thinks that offering an audio guide to someone who is visibly blind seems kinda obvious?!

But it was a very special experience.
