In December 2023, I was incorrectly advised to forgo taking my hydrocortisone for 24 hours, that lead me to have an adrenal crisis. This, along with the surgery and starting of chemo, bringing lots of trauma from my two years of IV chemo as a teenager, all caused me to lose a lot of confidence.
By July 2024 I was at rock bottom and had become so scared of having an adrenal crisis that I couldn’t even leave my home. I went into an in patient psychiatric unit to try to recover. To get to a place where I could function again.
This past week, almost a year since I was discharged (still having weekly therapy) I went to Paris. This truly would have been unthinkable a year ago.
I guess the point of this is that things get better. Even when they seem impossibly sad right now.
Sending anyone who needs it love and strength ❤️
We did so much on our short four day trip. We took the Eurostar from London to Paris, despite not having booked assistance, the assistance team were fantastic and wizzed us through very smoothly and quickly.
By the time we had arrived and got checked in to our hotel (with a stop off at a Boulangere for a baguette) it was time to head out for some food.
Our first meal was at Aujourd’hui demain, a fantastic vegan restaurant with a small supermarket attached. I had mac and ‘cheese’ with crispy onion and ‘bacon’ alongside a blueberry and lemon mocktail. We bought a bar of fair trade chocolate to have in the room and headed back to the hotel.
The following day we went to Land and Monkeys, a vegan Boulangerie and had the best croissant. We also picked up a filled baguette for lunch, Before we headed out for the day.
We saw so much at first by walking to Notre Dame, we passed the French Stock Exchange, an old royal residence, Palais Garnier and part of La Louvre. I was so impressed because my Meta Ray Ban glasses told me what all these buildings were and a little information on them too.
We then got a river boat along the River Seine all the way to la Tour Eiffel. We stopped for lunch beside the tower and once we had finished we went up to the top. It was amazing. Even though I couldn’t see it clearly you could feel how high up you were. It had been hailing but thankfully once we had reached the top it had cleared up and the sun was shining.
This blog is getting long so I will save the rest for another time.
If you’re still reading, thank you.
