We were then back on the boat to slowly make our way back to the hotel. We got off at the Louvre this time and were able to see the pyramid and walk through some of the grounds which were fantastic. We then made our way to the hotel to get ready for the evening.

We had the evening plans set out for a while and were very excited to experience a bit of French cuisine. (Other than croissants!)

We were having dinner at Le portage du marais, a restaurant that describes themselves as serving up traditional French food with a vegan twist. It was a beautiful restaurant that as soon as you walked in smelt of some incredible food.

The owner greeted us warmly and we looked at the menu. It didn’t take long for us to chose.

I had the chick pea purée, with a lovely bread basket, followed by Seitan Bourgogne with a potato gratin dauphinoise and for dessert a chocolate mousse. My partner had French onion soup with the same main and a crème brûlée to finish off. The food was incredible. Everything was just so tasty. The potato and chocolate mousse were a particular highlight of mine.

We also had a lovely conversation with the owner. Who told us about the restaurants history, explaining the meaning of Le potage du marais means ‘the vegetable garden’ it originally starting 20 years ago as a small restaurant with a goal of sharing vegan food with people who otherwise wouldn’t try it. Not originally even saying anywhere they were vegan until the rise of veganism and the desire for vegan restaurants grew so much that they could proudly announce they were vegan.

It was an amazing experience and I would urge anyone, vegan or not to give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.
